A short documentary exploring "Nyungtob Ling", a home for exiled disabled Tibetans living in Dharamsala, India. PITCH But why does Tibetan society, that's so family-oriented, require this centre? Why are so many children so reliant on this help? Over fifty years ago, Tibet was invaded by China. His Holiness, the Fourteenth Dalai Lama of Tibet, having striven for peaceful coexistence with the Chinese invaders since 1949, fled Lhasa on March 17, 1959. Nearly 80,000 Tibetan refugees managed to follow His Holiness into exile. Many live in primitive conditions. Hunger and infectious diseases such as tuberculosis affect large numbers. Due to the harshness of living in exile, many now find it impossible to provide for their families as before. Nyingtob Ling provide the solution. Through support,
help and fun, the children are allowed to be children again. As well as
creating a safe place, vocational training and employment opportunities
are provided. Bags, hats, socks, friendship bracelets and all manner of
crafts are created at the centre. More specialist talents are also explored,
including artistic and cultural. But what does the future hold for these
children? DIRECTOR/
PRODUCER: Sahil Sehgal
