SYNOPSIS
Downtrodden talent agent Jack Spires' life is headed fast down the toilet of obscurity, his promising career cut short after his wife, stage star Binnie Spires, divorces him and takes up with slimy manager Brooklyn Tanner. Now Jack's only clients are a cleaning woman with a dancing dog act and Mona Pio, a klutzy, accident-prone dancer he happens to be in love with.

The situation goes from bad to worse when Jack loses his apartment and terminally unemployed Mona threatens to leave him. Forced to move into his shabby office, Jack has to contend with a radio in the apartment across the way that constantly plays Judy Garland. He sees a black woman, Odessa, in the apartment window and realizes the voice he hears isn't from the radio. Attempts to sign her are rebuffed by both Odessa and her giant of a brother, RT.

One night Jack can't take the singing anymore. He goes over to ask them to stop, inadvertently discovers the real source of the voice: RT himself! RT threatens to kill Jack if his secret gets out, but Jack presents a devious and enterprising plan: Fool the world by having Mona lip-sync while RT sings for her, hidden in the background.

The ruse works - too well. As Mona's star climbs and money pours in, Jack is forced to deal with her being wooed by his nemesis Brooklyn and attempts by RT's devious ex-girlfriend to expose the fraud. Everything comes to a hilarious head at a gala holiday bash while all of London, and the world, watches.
