Zoetrope Reviews

This screenplay is very well done. The language, the colourful descriptions, and of course the violence. It all rings true in any studying or reading that I have done on the subject. All the major players stood out in their descriptions and actions. This is by far my favourite script I have read… I appreciate the reality of the dangers and the suffering the pirates went through. The idea of adventure, and danger that attracts young men like EDWARD…(M.T.D.)

I really liked the setting and characters in this story. Overall, the characters are good in this, and I liked most of the dialogue. (M.S.)

It was a fun read; non-stop action that would certainly appeal to fans of sea-stories and coming-of-age tales as well. The moment to moment action of the story is well done… You drew the character of Teach very well. He was by far the most interesting and complex of the characters in your story. He had moments of compassion, of brutality, of good humour and blood thirsty cruelty, all mixed in to make him that much more real. You have a feel for drawing out a trait or two in a minor character that gives them their own unique voices and personalities. (J.S.I.)

Stories of young men coming of age are always in vogue and setting one against a backdrop of pirates to me was a good choice, guaranteed excitement, adventure and plenty of gore… You've got a great story with lots of action and memorable characters. (K.S.)

"The Devil's Disguise" had good dialogue, some dramatic situations, and an interesting premise. (J.H.)

The storyline here is a good one… You make a good job of using all the resources at your disposal to give the story a sound superstructure, without it seeming to creak too much in the wind (please pardon the naval metaphor)… The story was pretty well written. (M.H.)
