Peter Devonald is a multi-award winning scriptwriter and producer,
who has had work shown in over 40 international film festivals
and worked in the creative and corporate fields. His intelligent,
tightly structured writing has featured in short films, features,
TV and online series and viral marketing initiatives. Peter
has the proven ability to create original concepts or write
to order, depending on the needs of the producer or client.
He has worked
with Blue Zoo, MTV, Vermilion and Soup. Awards include best
drama at the New York International Film Festival, second in
The End Of The Pier Film Festival, finalist in the Super Shorts
Awards and Winner of the main Jury prize at the 2008 Wood Green
International Short Film Festival. He has recently completed
a feature commission, GUY'S REQUIEM. Peter was one of
the writers of the Bafta nominated THOSE SCURVY RASCALS (dir.
Oli Hyatt. Entara Ltd/ Blue-Zoo), which won best Children's
Series and Choice Award at the 10th British Animation Awards.
WASTED
(dir. Rowland Jobson. (S16). Seefood TV) is Peter's latest short.
Winner of The Haringey Short Film Award, UK Film Council, Wasted
includes Robbie Ryan (DoP Brick Lane, Wasp), Helen Scott (Production
designer Red Road, Wasp) and Steven Elder (Afterlife, Eastenders
and Coronation Street). Co-producers are Zoe Webster, Victoria
Wood, Rowland Jobson and Peter Devonald.

(dir. Scott Rawsthorne, Diamond Bullets/ MTV) is perhaps Peter's
highest profile short so far, with a cast including Matthew
Marsh (Spy Game), Alexandra Moen (Dr Who, Tripping Over) and
David Gyasi (Shooting Dogs). British Council sponsored, .357
was selected for the L.A Short Film Festival, Filmstock Festival
2006 and was the winner of best drama at the New York International
Indie Film & Video Festival. When it aired on MTV on 13th
September 2005 it was chosen as the Evening Standard 'Pick Of
The Night'.
TOAST (dir.
Steve Hammal, Dark Skies Films) was funded by Open Lens/ City-Eye
- Screen South, and has been selected for the Bradford Film
Festival (2006), Warrington Film Festival (2006), Deep Fried
Festival (2006), Portobello Festival (2006), Final Cut, Brighton
(2006), Sefton Short Film Festival (2006), End Of The Pier Film
Festival (second place, 2006), Heart of Gold International Film
Festival (2007) and 10th Nuit du court
métrage/ The Short Film Night of Lausanne (2007).

(dir. Scott Rawsthorne, Diamond Bullets) has shown in a dozen
countries including The Big Issue Film Festival (2004, Prince
Charles Cinema), TresCourts, Nordkapp Film Festival and Capalbio
(2005), official selection on Triggerstreet and aired on The
Community Channel (2004). Peter also worked with students at
the London Film School (THE JOURNEY, dir. Katina Medina
(starring Lucy Joyce) and TORST, dir. Wajid Malik) and
National Film School (FROZEN, dir. Emile Guertin).
END OF THE WORLD
(dir. James Appleton, Waveform. Prod. Alex Feakes) screened
and in competition at the Talent Circle Super Shorts (2006),
Holloway Arts Big Day Out 2008 and Reel Islington Screenings.

Throughout his career
Peter has placed in screenwriting awards, including winner of
the Haringey Film Award (2007), semi-finalist in The British
Screenplay competition (2006), final shortlists for UKFC funding
in London/ Midlands (2006), nine Top Screenplays on Coppola's
Zoetrope (2005-2001), Winner of The Times award to attend the
National Academy Of Writing (2003), Winner of Raindance Live
Ammunition (2003), top ten on Kevin Spacey's Triggerstreet (2003)
and final shortlist (18 from 2000) in the Lloyds Bank Film Challenge
(1993). His theatre and radio works have been short-listed three
times for the Woolwich Radio Playwrights Award (1996-7), shortlisted
at the 11th Playwriting Festival (Warehouse, 1996), finalist
at the International Playscript Competition (1995), and winner
of the London Playwright Of Year (1992). Peter Devonald was
also the judge/ mentor for the Sir Peter Ustinov Television
Scriptwriting Award (iEMMYS, New York, 2003-6).
Born in Watford,
England, in 1973, Peter trained as a writer studying Theatre
at Lancaster University from 1992-95. He attended The Northern
Film School (Leeds) and National Academy Of Writing (awarded
best script: Celia Brayfield/ Paul Ashton). Peter had 13 theatre
shows performed from 1991-2001, inc. Palace Theatre (Watford),
T.I.E. tour and Contact Theatre (2001). In
1995 MASKS AND ANGELS (Nuffield, starring Ben Crystal)
received a special award for excellence from the NSDF.
