DECEMBER 2010
END OF YEAR ROUND UP
Thank you so much to so many excellent and talented friends and colleagues who have made 2010 such a successful year.

TRANSMISSION (Dir. Ronis Varlaam) and GirlLikeMe (Dir. Rowland Jobson) have played around the world in about 30 major international festivals. TRANSMISSION Log No.1 was shortlisted for the Best Art Film award and played as part of the "Best of the Fest" at the Portobello Film Festival.

The major awards and kudos went to GirlLikeMe - which I wrote and coproduced. This year we have won the Kyiv International Film Festival "Molodist" Best Short Film Award: a really excellent festival, with the award ceremony live online at the Ukrainian National Opera House. The film also received a Jury Special Mention at the 5th Batumi International Art House Film Festival, and was the winner of the Best Local Short Film prize at the 8th Wood Green International Short Film Festival 2010. We are grateful in particular to David Waterson and Haringey Council for their support of our film.

GirlLikeMe has also played so many wonderful festivals, and we have to thank the support of the ukfc and the British Council for helping its amazing run. We also wish to thank Fuji film who shortlisted us for the Fujifilm Shorts 2010 in two categories - ‘Best Film’ and ‘Best Cinematography’ - and released the film on their excellent short film DVD.

This year has also seen the making of some excellent new short films to be premiered in the New Year. Particularly exciting are The Adventure of the Lonely Can (dir Steve Hammal) and featuring quite amazing CGI by Henrik, Green (dir. Ronis Varlaam) and the wonderfully surreal and fantastic Sign Of Things To Come (dir Jason Edwards).

Also this year I've been commissioned to write a film for Filmclub, which should be released shortly. There are more short films in the can, and I am thankful to work with such wonderful and talented people. Reel Islington, which I am cochair, had another successful year including excellent screenings at local venues, Whittington Park and the Odeon.

This year has been great for feature films too, including GUY'S REQUIEM optioned by Mark Engels. 3LA2T F1LMS. There are other feature developments, but I don't like to announce anything till everything is greenlit... which as you know can be a VERY long process! But certainly getting there, so fingers crossed for the future.

So, seasons greetings to you all. And may 2011 be happy and successful to each and every one of us.

Best wishes, Peter Devonald

FEBRUARY 2010
GirlLikeMe Reviewed at Slamdance 2010
"One of the more beautifully crafted shorts of the festival, and a big-impactor, as well. This short follows a day-in-the-life account of a young teenager named Lucy who tests the waters of pedophilia with an older man. Shockingly enough, the older man’s first-date revelation that he is not the young boy the main character you were expecting is shocking enough, but the action heats up darker as they head home to his flat. The shot composition, lighting and camera movement are exceptional as is the performance from this stellar UK cast. Kudos to director Rowland Jobson for his effort, and to the festival programmers for screening it with an appropriately dark drama like urFrenz.
