FADE IN:
TITLE CARD: DAY ONE
EXT. RUN-DOWN STREET - NIGHT
STEPHEN HOPKINS runs down the rain soaked street.
FRANCIS and HAYNES speed after him with guns in hand.
Francis is attractive, mid to late twenties, mixed
heritage, with medium length hair and an unusual beauty.
Haynes is older, early forties, black, attractive, with a
physical, powerful presence.
They speed down increasingly dark and shadowy streets in
an industrial part of town.
Haynes signals to Francis that he'll go one way, she goes
the other.
They run.
Fast.
Francis suddenly turns and looks around.
They've lost Hopkins.
Francis turns and looks at the dark buildings all around.
The rain pounds down.
She looks at the ground at a man-hole cover and breathes
out deeply.
INT. UNDERGROUND SEWERS LADDER - CONTINUOUS
Francis opens up the man-hole cover and climbs down the
ladder.
INT. UNDERGROUND SEWERS - CONTINUOUS
Francis jumps from the ladder and looks down the dark,
dank sewers.
They stretch for miles in either direction.
She brings out a flashlight and sludges through the
sewage, gun in hand.
EXT. STREET - INTERCUT
Haynes looks around, confused.
He hears a scratching noise somewhere close...
He approaches it with his gun in front of him...
2.
Sweat glistens on his forehead...
INT. UNDERGROUND SEWERS - INTERCUT
Francis walks with her gun in front of her.
She stops.
Listens.
She can hear someone behind her.
She turns and shines the flashlight in that direction.
There is sound from the other direction.
She turns, confused.
EXT. STREET - INTERCUT
Haynes approaches boxes, his gun is front of him.
Scratching sound comes from the boxes.
Haynes frowns, confused, as he approaches...
Suddenly a cat springs out at him from the boxes.
HAYNES
Jesus!
Haynes pushes the cat away from him. His breathing is
heavy and unsteady.
INT. UNDERGROUND SEWERS - INTERCUT
Francis shakes.
There is the sound of movement either way.
She crouches down and turns off her flashlight.
She listens, waits.
Silence.
She senses someone close to her.
She turns on her flashlight to reveal Hopkins crouching
down the corridor away from her. He appears to hold a gun
in his hand.
She points her gun towards him. He stares blankly back.
FRANCIS
Put the gun down.
Hopkins hesitates.
3.
FRANCIS
Do it - NOW!
Hopkins makes a sudden movement.
Francis fires.
Hopkins falls.
FRANCIS
Shit.
Francis keeps her gun trained on him as she approaches
Hopkins, who has collapsed in the sewage.
FRANCIS
What the hell do you think
you're doing?
Hopkins looks up and gets eye contact.
FRANCIS
Show me your hands - SLOWLY!
Hopkins smiles and keeps eye contact.
FRANCIS
Show me your hands. And drop
the weapon.
Hopkins smiles broadly.
FRANCIS
Do it.
HOPKINS
You're not who you think you
are.
Francis stares at him, confused.
FRANCIS
I don't -
Hopkins goes to raise his gun from underneath the water-
line.
Francis reacts quicker.
She fires.
Hopkins is shot and slumps to the ground.
Francis approaches him with her gun pointed towards him.
She checks the Hopkins' pulse.
Nothing.
4.
She picks up her radio.
FRANCIS
(on radio)
There's a man down. Requires
medical assistance.
She raises Hopkins' hand up to reveal what he's holding...
Francis stares at it, surprised.
Her eyes focus on it...
In Hopkins' hand is a cross.
